Waitangi Day
Today marks the anniversary of the signing of the treaty of Waitangi by Maori chiefs and the Crown in 1840 and is a national holiday here. It was another beautiful day so guided by our good friends the Coplands we went for a walk and a swim at the Taierie River. The water was delightful although Andre's comments on impact of local dairy farms on the water quality and Ecoli are stubbornly sitting somewhere at the back of my mind! ;-)( hopefully the Ecoli isn't sitting somewhere in our stomachs!!)
Back to school for the kids tomorrow after the long six weeks holiday - phew!

At least you have water in your rivers! It's so dry here. We got home today to find a large bush fire buning 10 minutes walk away from our house! I was already thinking of not staying home, however it was just over a low ridge up the Horotane Valley where friends of ours live!! We called them, no answer!!! Five minutes later they were on our driveway - looking very stressed. Four helicopters, with monsoon buckets, soon sorted it.

"On Sunday the E-coli in David's stomach decided a little mischief was in order! Along with his chum parvo virus he slid all the way down the small and large intestine of the poor unsuspecting boy"
"Oh dear", said David "I'm felling a little unwell. I'm afraid the cycle ride with our chums will have to wait Wendy!" as he bolted toward the lavatory.
"No ginger beer or shortbread for you then?" said Wendy
"No thanks! But lashings of toilet roll please!" said David as he slammed the door"
