Visit to Akaroa

While at camp we took an afternoon trip out to Akaroa. This is a beautiful sea side village that was settled by 57 french settlers in 1840. The original plan was to start a French colony there, but they arrived to find the Brits had rushed a couple of magistrates there to assert British sovereignty. (There had actually been Maori living their for a thousand years!) - anyway enough history, it was a great place to visit.
